Chapter 1 Projects

Micros, Minis, Mainframes, and Supercomputers
In Chapter 1, you read about several categories of computers, including handhelds, personal computers, servers, mainframes, and supercomputers. Use your library and Internet resources to find case studies that describe how computers are used in specific organizations or businesses and what category of computer is used. Write a one-paragraph summary of your findings. Remember to include citations for the resources you used.

Anonymous E-mail?
When you send e-mail, your user ID is automatically attached to your message. This return address indicates who sent the message (in case you forgot to include your name), lets your correspondents easily send you replies, and helps the mail system return messages that have incorrect addresses. Recently, some networks have offered a way to send anonymous e-mail. What are the pros and cons of anonymous mail? Under what circumstances would you want to send anonymous mail? Would you expect people to abuse this capability? Discuss this issue in a small group or research the issue individually. Write a one-page summary of your position on whether people should be allowed to send anonymous e-mail.
